The Padang River is an ancient river formed from the contact zone between the Metasediment Rock Kelapa Kampit Formation in the East and the granite rock unit in the west. This contact zone remained the channel as a weak zone which then was eroded by the water. This process was responsible to form the river along this contact to connect to the northern sea of Belitong Island. This river was the main access to enter the Belitong from the North which has recorded the Muslim missionary from the oldest Islamic Kingdom in Indonesia, Samudra Pasai. This can be traced from the old muslim cemeteries from that kingdom. This river was also used as the main transportation access which remained the old pier. This river has also strong connection with the most nightmare pirate history in the Malaca Peninsula, was named Lanun.
