JAKARTA – The National Task Force announced 136 regencies and cities in the yellow zone or low risk on Monday (8/6). In these conditions pentaheliks disaster management has a role according to its function, one of which is the mass media.
Chairman of the Palu City Independent Journalist Alliance (AJI) Muhammad Iqbal said that the media has a watchdog function when facing a pandemic, especially in Central Sulawesi (Central Sulawesi). “Of course, we will continue to try to remind, in addition to socializing,” Iqbal said in a discussion via digital space on Wednesday (6/10).
“We also remind, both to the government and all parties to continue implementing the COVID-19 protocol, even though the zone has entered the green zone,” he added.
On the one hand, the media will criticize if it sees any activity carried out by the government or non-government in its area that does not implement health protocols. This will have an impact on society.
He reminded the government that we must not ignore this. “Although for example, this is an internal event and does not involve too many people,” said Iqbal.
On the other hand, the media plays an important role in educating the public.
“So, we are more focused on the publication function,” said Iqbal.
Through these efforts, awareness grows collectively in the community. Steps according to the health protocol are no longer a necessity, but this will become a new habit.
“So without further ado, the community will get used to it,” he added.
He also said that people will be dealing with a new culture in daily life, such as getting used to masks, washing hands, and all kinds of things. Although, in some circles, the habit has begun to get used.
On that occasion, Iqbal urged all parties to implement health protocols so that they can continue their activities towards safe and productive COVID-19 during the transition period.
A total of 7 districts in the Central Sulawesi Province are in the low risk category or yellow zone. The seven administrative regions are Palu, Morowali, Sigi, Poso, Tolitoli, Banggai Kepulauan and Banggai Laut.
